Starting the season with a bare 8 under 14's, the Fleetwood side have grown in numbers and stature.
Tarleton have played well this season and despite a good run of results Fleetwood were still the under-dogs but it was they who took advantage in the first 5 minutes catching the visitors cold when a weak kick clearance was snaffled by Cardinal Allen's finest Ciaran Thornborough who beat three players to score in the corner, the large & excitable crowd went wild and kept up the great home support throughout the game.
Fleetwood were tested many times but tackled like Trojans, with centre Taei Parker, back row Tyler McGawley and wingers Ryan Hargreaves & Feargus Anderson complementing the excellent cover work by full-back Cavan Sielski.
Both teams were even throughout the match with a number of scoring opportunities for both but it was second row Ben Stubbs who saved the day late in the second half by completing a last minute try saving tackle which the referee said was the best tackle he had ever seen at Junior level in his 103 years.
The closing minutes were fraut with tension as both teams looked for that allusive score but it was Fleetwood who held on to take a place in a County Cup Final which will be held at Leigh in 2 weeks against the winners of Littleborough and Sefton, great for Junior Rugby.
The game was again played in great spirit and we look forward to future tight matches with this Tarleton team.
