The 2nd XV rounded off a near perfect season for Fleetwood RUFC with a resounding victory at near neighbours Fylde.

Not to be outdone by the 1st team’s success the previous week the 2nds wanted to finish off their season in style indicating the club’s strength in depth and an excellent community spirit with players from all teams supporting each other.
A large group of spectators travelled down to the Woodlands for a much anticipated final league game of the season. Fleetwood had already secured promotion but were hoping to finish as league champions. However there was disappointment as the visitors arrived only to find that the home side had only 5 players and the game as a contest was basically over before it had begun.
Fleetwood however had a large enough squad to be able to provide the hosts with extra players in order that the game could go ahead. All credit to Toby Holder-Williams, Mike Wilson, Luke Wilson, Henry Turner and others for donning the Fylde shirt to play against their own team-mates.
The visitors wasted no time however in racking up the points with an abundance of pace in the backs, captain Paul Bamber leading the way.
Scott Richardson and Bobby Jones also added scores as centres Ricky Newton and Zac Coultas regularly punched holes in the home defence. Danny Tomlinson found himself in an array of positions and unselfishly off-loaded to Nick Perkes for the final try when the line had already been crossed.
Pete Benny and Steve Woodburn provided the power and possession in the forwards whilst youngster Asa Watson carried the ball well. Marc Maher and Scott Dobbie also featured in the second half as James Lilley made a brief appearance for the home side. The referee called time early as soon as Fleetwood passed the 70 point margin.
Chairman Andy Thompson had the champagne on hand for the second week running with both the 1st and 2nd team securing promotion as league champions. The end of an amazing season for the green and golds.
Well done to all the players and coaching staff throughout the club.
