What promised to be Fleetwood’s toughest game of the season, certainly lived up to expectations.

This was an intense fiercely contested game right from the start. Vales more experienced side where more than a match for Fleetwood in the early exchanges. Slightly against the run of play Fleetwood took advantage of a turnover and produced quick ball to break from their own line and after some strong work by the forwards Jamie Moran crossed the line to give Fleetwood and early score. The rest of the first half continued to be as fiercely contested as the start, but Fleetwood began to assert pressure on the Vale defence which eventually resulted in a Penalty converted by Scott Richardson which gave Fleetwood an 8-0 lead. Vale came back strongly at Fleetwood and themselves gained a penalty which made the score 8-3 at half time.
After the interval Fleetwood came out with more purpose and put Vale under more pressure with some great attacking rugby by the backs and some strong aggressive play by the forwards which then led to a Pete Benny try to put Fleetwood 13-3 in front. Further creative play by the Fleetwood backs led to tries from Zack Coultas and Paul Bamber, with a conversion from Scott Richardson to give a final score of 27-3.
It was a good strong all round performance by Fleetwood who were strongly tested by a more experienced Vale side, who competed right up until the final whistle.
Man of the match was deservedly given to James Lilly by match sponsors Fleetwood Mini Juniors.
