The game against Ashton was expected to be a tough one for Fleetwood, and it proved to be so.

As expected Fleetwood came out of the blocks flying as usual and were looking to put points on Ashton early on, but every credit to Ashton they put up some strong defensive play, but Fleetwood managed to cross the line after a period of intense pressure through Jamie Moran and the try was converted by Paul Bamber. Fleetwood kept up the pressure with a strong forwards display, with Danny Maher, Nick Perks and James Lilly who worked tirelessly throughout the game, constantly turning over possession. The Fleetwood’s stronger scrum also took its toll on the Ashton pack and they went uncontested scrums just before half-time.
After turning round at 10-3 down Ashton came out all guns blazing in the second half but a solid Fleetwood defence managed to soak up all the attacks Ashton could throw at them. It was then Fleetwood managed to turn the tables and they started to put pressure on Ashtons defence and eventually were paid off with a well worked try from Marc Maher converted by Bamber and then a hard fought try by Andy Holme to finish off.
It was another win to make it 10 out of 10 for the season but it was certainly Fleetwood’s toughest test of the season, but the fitness, patience and team spirit came through in the end.
