Della Flu doesn't stop end of season festivities!

Della Flu was alive and well throughout the club this week, with both the first and second teams entertaining the boys from Salford, causing lads from all three teams mysteriously having varying reasons as to why they couldn't play.

This unfortunately led to Fleetwood having to concede the 3rd team game away at Preston, and a combined 2s and 3s squad to go away to De La Salle. James Kilburn made his 2nd team debut, and Robert Mangan claims that he did, but no one has any recollection of it.

The game didn't start to brightly for the away side as Della took an early lead with a couple of tries from sucking in the forwards and then going out wide in the backs.

Towards the end of the first half, Fleet managed to get on the score sheet. After a botched lineout attempt, the official missed knock ons from both sides. Captain Foden picked the ball up and managed to wriggle himself through the home forwards to get over the line. Conversion missed.

Shortly before the half time whistle, Fly Half Josh Pearce was on the wrong end of a hard tackle, going over hard on his knee and ankle, which took him out of the game, and looking likely the rest of the season.

The work rate had definitely picked up towards the end of the first half with Fleetwood looking to take the game to Della. The forwards were dominating the scrum and the backs were starting to find a rhythm.

Tom Evans, now playing at 10 spotted a gap in the Della defence and ran through the middle to score. Conversion scored.

Shortly afterwards, Evans got his second, as again he ran the home defence ragged, making two men run into each other, to score under the posts. Tom decided that he was too tired to take the kick, so Darren Howe did the honours. Conversion scored.

Full Time 49-19

Tries: Foden; Evans(2).
Conversions: Howe(2).

Hard fought defeat in the end. But an enjoyable game followed by our annual last away game Scope on Tour social.

Man of the Match

There were some good performances. Young colts McCann, Hargreaves and Crompton continue to impress. Alex Obiorah made plenty of yards, but definitely needs to learn how to handle his alcohol. Tom Evans would be an obvious candidate, but for a prop who had him in his back pocket all day.

Man of the Match goes to Liam Gornall who put in a stellar effort, making yards, big tackles and good in support.

The Weekly Sam Pook Report

Sam's lineouts again let him down, as does his 'banter'. Half decent performance before he goes away to sea for a month.

Squad: 15. Howe; 14. Kilburn; 13. Birks; 12. Evans; 11. Obiorah; 10. Pearce; 9. Crompton; 1. O'Hara; 2. Pook; 3. Foden; 4. McCann; 5. Wood; 6. Gornall; 7. Hargreaves; 8. Bridges; 16. Kilburn; 17. Mangan.
