Flooding doesn't stop Fleetwood!

Heavy rain and flooding throughout the week put the game against Wigan in doubt, but the game went on as planned, to the lads delight.

Last minute unavailabilities left Fleetwood having to shuffle deck, but a strong side was still fielded. This was needed against a set of big "rugby league" boys.

The conditions were horrendous, the rain continuous and the ground saturated. The Fleetwood boys were keen to get the game started against an opposition that have had a similar start to the season.

The home side struck first via veteran winger Betty, who stepped several of the opposition and showed a good burst of pace to score under the posts. Conversion scored. Betty had a good game in the first half, sadly this was all undone by him having to go off at half time for being cold.

Unfortunately for Fleetwood, Wigan struck back within 5 minutes as Fleetwood failed to make simple tackles, a theme that ran throughout the game.

The game slowly turned into anything you can do, I can do better. After sustained forward pressure, big second row, James Haskell doppelganger, Tom Watson burst through to score. Conversion missed. Wigan reacted in kind and scored shortly afterwards.

Just before half time, Reece Heer got himself over the white wash. Conversion Scored.

At half time words of encouragement were said and the boys were asked to do more of the same.

Unfortunately, injuries, Simon Betty being cold and yellow cards upset Fleetwood's rhythm. As Wigan added two tries to their tally in the second half bringing the game close. A try from skipper Foden and conversion from Jackson kept the home side ahead.

As the second half drew to a close, there was definite signs of tired legs from both teams. The game got a little sloppy and the weather had got to the lads. The final whistle was a welcome sound.

In the forwards, the scrum functioned well, Ben Langton stood out winning ball at the breakdown and strong carries forward, Tom Watson had a good showing before a neck injury forced him off, Chris Constantine and Phil Wood also had decent games with some big carries.

In the backs, Joe Kirton played his usual solid game, aforementioned Betty had a decent first half, Stelfox did well out of Position, as did Hearne who had a very good game at stand in Full Back.

It was also nice to see Harry Haydock and Ant Clarke playing their first second team games in several years, please keep making yourselves available.

The Weekly Sam Pook Report

Sam had an alright game in the scrum and around the park. But his line outs were truly woeful. Sam also "Scored" late on in the game. To be fair he had. But the official decided that a Wigan player has gotten his hands under the ball. This didn't sit well with Sam. Very deserving winner of 'The Prestigous Dick of the Day' award.

Man of the Match

MOTM this week goes to Nautical Student Ben Langton, for his graft around the pitch.
