Fleet suffer 4th consecutive defeat

Another week of selection headaches led to three lads making 2nd team debuts, two nautical lads Jamie Hearne and Harry Baker, and young Ewan Beavers.

Fleetwood started well in this league and cup double header fixture, looking to put the three previous defeats behind them and finally earn that elusive first win of the season.

Tarleton had other ideas though, as they went and scored two runaway tries. This made the Fleetwood lads drop their heads and confidence their began to disappear, leading to silly mistakes being made.

A picture perfect last minute tackle from Darryl Wilson saved Fleet from conceding another try, covering from the opposite side of the pitch, showing his grit determination. This in turn inspired the boys to up their games.

Despite this Tarleton scored another two tries and a penalty before half time.

Stern words were said during the half time team talk. This got Fleetwood back in the mood, not content on failing to score.

A bad start to the half occurred when Tarleton scored a fith try just after the second half had kicked off.

Fleetwood realigned and started doing some serious damage to the Tarleton forwards. A change of emphasis and a more direct running game started to run Tarleton ragged. Continuous pick and go's from the forwards finally got the home side their reward. Burly Mike Jackson forced himself over the white wash.

This was the start of a great half for the men in green and gold. More hard yards were made by the likes of Barnes, Holden, Simpkin and Stelfox. Only for skipper Foden to barge his way over the line from a short distance.

The forwards continued their bullying ways deep into the second half, only to give the ball to Fly Half Pearce who released his back line. Geordie Dave for some reason finding himself there, made a little shimmy and threw a pass to nautical lad Baker who took his chance showing phenomenal speed and scored under ther posts for the easy conversion for Mike Jackson.

Full time Fleetwood 19 36 Tarleton

After a disappointing first half the lads really did turn it around in the second half. Let's hope the lads build on that second half performance next week away at Southport.

After last week's mention, Sam Pook has been greedy for more attention so... his hooking was slightly better this week, his lineout throwing may need more practice though. Finally his banter some how got worse after he went out and bought a self help banter book.

Man of the match proved a little difficult this week. All the lads who put on a shirt put in a solid shift. But this week MOTM goes to Ryan Holden for his ferocious tackling, great running and taking of the ball at the restart. Henry Stelfox was a very close second, please keep up the effort lads.
