Very Bad Day At The Office

A series of unavailabilities, work schedules, child care and Cumbrian Flu left Fleetwood's second team with a bit of a piecemeal side. 2nd team debuts were handed to Simon Young, James Tucker and Ben Swindlehurst.

The boys who made the lengthy trip up to Penrith went in good spirits hoping to find that elusive win and a good performance. That was not to be against the classy Cumbrians.

Strong defence in the first half kept the lads within three converted scores of getting anything out of the game. Unfortunately for the away side, the home team were just that bit fitter and better drilled and the points piled on.

Fleetwood never really got going in an attacking sense, rarely troubling Penrith's 22. The lads stuck at it though for the full 80 minutes and gave it their all.

Once again, there were glimpses of good play in the forwards and in the backs. Wood, Foden and Kirton all showed skills at the breakdown, tackling and carrying the ball. In the backs, Chris Jones showed his experience, Irwin and Swindlehurst made some good runs with ball in hand.

After having one or two minor mentions in previous match reports, Hooker Pook asked if he could have a more staring role in the weekly round up.... His lineout throws were slightly straighter this week, his banter is still terrible though.

As the game finished flanker Jeffrey rushed himself back to the Vic after suffering a self diagnosed broken collarbone. Fortunately the x-rays showed nothing broken.

Picking a Man of the Match was a bit of a no-brainer for Manager Buzza and Skipper Foden. For playing out of position, tackling anything that moved and showing fiery passion, MOTM goes to Joe Kirton.
