Having lost both encounters against West Park in the league and cup respectively the home team were keen to retain their unbeaten home record.

The pressure was evident from the whistle as Fleetwood looked to take an early lead, so after ten minutes prop Foden scampered across the whitewash from close range, Jackson adding the extras. Things quickly became worse for the visitors when their centre was given time in the sin-bin, young Colt Kirton showed clever thinking as he jinked round the blind side of the scrum side-stepping defenders before scoring, Jackson slotting the conversion. By now Fleet were firmly establishing dominance in all areas of the game, opting to run at every opportunity with backs and forwards carrying well. Again Kirton was on the score sheet as he showed his class in bagging his second try, Jackson slotting the conversion. Next up was the ageing No 8 Smith who trundled over to score before departing for Richardson. The only negative to the half was a missed tackle by the guesting Betty which allowed West Park to score under the posts, half-time 26-7.

With the half back pairing of Kirton and Lomax controlling the game it was the impressive Richardson who created the next opportunity for Lomax to touch down, conversion missed. The floodgates were now opening for Fleet, again Richardson and centre Kerr created the gaps for full back Parker to score, with the conversion taken making it 37-7. The forwards were not finished yet as Jones burst forward swatting off tacklers with skipper Barnes assisting before feeding Kerr who smashed through to score, conversion missed. Almost from the restart hooker Barnes was showing his skills again driving forward before offloading to flanker McAndrew who sprinted down the wing to score, conversion missed 47-7. Despite having to constantly defend West Park never threw in towel, in fact from a rare lineout in the Fleet 22 a catch and drive resulted in a try and conversion. Not wanting to be outdone the home team responded accordingly with Colt Heer carrying strongly the eventual recipient Barnes touching down with the extras added by Jackson, 54-12 the advantage. Although the game was drawing to a conclusion the ever present Richardson broke down the middle and fed Kerr who bullocked his way to score in the corner, conversion added 61-12. The final points for Fleet came courtesy of wing Betty who touched down after yet another Richardson break. However, in what proved to be the last play of the game the referee awarded a penalty try to West Park for constant infringing in the tackle area, final score 66-17.

The big debate in the clubhouse afterwards was who was Man of the Match? Despite the obvious candidates being amongst try scoring contenders it was fly half nautical boy Lomax who narrowly received the accolade for his overall contribution. That said, it was a brilliant team effort. Next week Fleet travel to Aldwinians.
