Against the now familiar larger opposition pack fleet were slow out of the blocks and conceded a number of early penalties for infringements at the breakdown.

One of these penalties was converted in to 3 points by the visitors.
This rallied the Fleet boys into action and from the re-start the forwards secured possession and fly-half Mark Silva gave a clever short ball to skipper Ricky Newton who crashed through the defensive line to score from 20 metres out. Jackson missed the conversion but made amends with a penalty 5 mins later following a catch and drive by James Cameron which should have led to a try but the defence impeded and conceded 3 points. 10-3 after 20 mins.
Although the visitors secured a good supply of ball their backs made a series of handling errors allowing Fleetwood a scrum within 25 metres of the opposition line. Once again the forwards took the ball towards the line before Ricky Newton crashed over for his second try, proving unstoppable from 1 metre out. Jackson converted, 17-3.
A lapse in concentration and some missed tackles allowed the visitors to score a breakaway try which was converted.
Immediately Fleet regained the initiative, a good handling move saw winger Ryan Smith held up short but once again the defence acted illegally and Pete Benny went over from a quickly taken penalty. Jackson converted, half-time 24-10

2nd half
Fleet made some changes with Dale Thompson returning from injury to take his place in the back row.
Aldwinians appeared to lose their discipline with a series of penalties along with arguing with the referee’s decisions. This spurred the home supporters to exploit these weaknesses even further.
Pete Benny scored his second try after 10 minutes of the half, ably supported by the rest of his pack, Andy Holme and James Cameron prominent in loose play. The front row of mark Evans, Henry Turner and Chris Lyons coped admirably with their larger counterparts who frequently transgressed with infringements at set pieces.
Another handling error by the visitors allowed Ryan Smith to pounce on a loose ball with an excellent pick-up and 50 yard dash for the line, 34-10.
Further indiscipline and frustration caused by Fleet’s excellent defence allowed the home boys to run the ball from their own 22 into their opponents half where they camped for long periods. Youngster jack Crompton came off the bench and made an immediate impact with a fine try after a good pass from full-back Paul Bamber. Jackson’s conversion made it 41-10.
The home fans thought that would be the final score but the referee seemed to find an extra 10 minutes of play. One of the visitors was shown a yellow card following a late tackle on scrum half Craig Doherty. However Fleet didn’t capitalise and the visitors broke away for a converted try.
Fleetwood responded immediately and from a line-out the visitors stand-off had his kick charged down and the surprised Pete Benny was on hand to complete his hat-trick.
Aldwinians had the last say though with a try by their laft winger which was well-converted to give a final score of 46-24.
An excellent all-round team performance.
Mike Wilson played well at no.8 before being replaced due to injury and Michael Dewhirst came on at 10 to replace mark Silva.
