The result, which saw Fleetwood's defense hold strong for the entire match, was a fitting part of a successful reunion day at the club.
The game started with a minute's silence in honour of Daniel Holden from Preston Grasshoppers
From the opening whistle, Fleetwood applied relentless pressure, spending much of the early stages deep in Dukinfield's half. That pressure quickly paid off when Brett Whitehead powered over from 15 meters out to score the first try. Sigley added the conversion, and Fleetwood was up 7-0.
The home side continued to control the tempo, and after more sustained pressure, Keegan Paverd touched down in the corner, extending the lead to 12-0.
Paverd would soon grab his second try after a defensive clearance: the Fleetwood chase was superb, leading to one of many turnovers on the day from scrum half Kieran Butler. This was followed by strong runs from Zack Coultas and a clever line and superb pass from Whitehead, setting up the score. Keegan then swan dived into the corner, dotting the ball down
At halftime, Fleetwood held a commanding 17-0 lead, but the team felt frustrated by a few missed opportunities to close out the half even stronger.
Second Half Action
The second half turned into a bit of an arm wrestle with no real significant action to report for the first 10/15 minutes until a yellow card for Dukinfield due to foul play, giving Fleetwood an immediate advantage.
It wasn't long before Whitehead got his second try of the day, finishing a slick passage of play by the backs to make it 22-0.
Shortly after Whitehead was shown a yellow card himself for playing the ball while on the ground at the bottom of a ruck, his excuse was "I'm a rugby league player, I don't know what I'm doing", at least he's honest
Despite being down a man, Fleetwood's momentum never wavered. With some superb interplay, the home side once again broke through Dukinfield's defense, and Keegan Paverd completed his hat trick by touching down in the corner.
The conversion was missed, but the try sealed a decisive 27-0 victory for Fleetwood.
While Dukinfield's inside centre Jarrod Ward was a constant threat, his side never looked likely to trouble the Fleetwood try line.
The match highlighted Fleetwood's potential, as they were unplayable at times. However, everyone understands this is part of a process, and the team will need to iron out some bad habits to maintain this form and avoid the pitfalls of previous seasons.
Keegan Paverd was named Man of the Match for his hat-trick performance, sharing the honors with Tom Greenwood, who was praised for his ferocious ball-carrying and tackling.
The club thanks all the players, volunteers, families, fans, and ex-players who made the reunion day a resounding success, expressing sincere appreciation for their continued support.
