Before the match started both teams, coaching staff and officials held a minutes silence in memory of Fleetwood team member Scarlett Bunn.
Fleetwood fielded a full team plus 1 sub. The home team started strong and held Windermere in their own half for long periods of time. But against the run of play, Windermere scored two breakaway tries, both converted to give them a lead of 0:14. With good hard work from the forwards, Fleetwood were rewarded with a try scored by number 8, Steph Goodwin, which she also converted. 7:14. Close to the end of the first half, Windermere scored another try to finish the half at 7:19.
The second half Windermere started very strong, and with a few fresh players, soon ran in numerous tries that were subsequently converted. Fleetwood suffered three serious injuries, which upset the momentum of their game. A strong Windermere side, finished the game with a 7:66 win.
A fine performance from all our players, especially our new players on their debut game, Jade Smith, Kate Lancaster and Nicola Wetherill. All three ladies made a significant impact on the game, resulting with Nicola Wetherill receiving Player of the Match.
A special mention to Yazz Brown, our hard tackling, strong running centre on her last game of her season as she is off to join the army. You will be sadly missed by all your team mates but we wish you all the best with your future and look forward to have you playing again when you're back on leave.
A massive improvement on our last game against Windermere, keep up the good work.
