The game began at great pace and an early try for Floppers scored by scrum half Julia Clapp lifted spirits and confidence further. Some strong scrummaging from a determined Floppers pack led to repeated turn over ball and after Floppers secured most of the possession, number eight Sarah Raynor nipped over from the five meter line to increase the lead. Inside Centre Lyndsey Boardman then took the score to 15-0 after breaking through to touch down under the posts.
The increase of wind and rain forced some messy play and errors, which played into Floppers hands as they continued to dominate in the scrum. The second half started much as the first with domination by the Floppers forwards but a lucky break from the Sheffield centre allowed them back into the game as their try was converted.
Floppers then replied with an excellent line of running from Clapp which took her over for her second try and secured the much needed win for Floppers.
Coach Debbie Hornby commented: “The win today is just the tonic we needed. The defeats have been a learning curve for the girls and we have taken on board the need for change with some hard training sessions to rectify the mistakes.
“The promotion to a higher league has brought home the need for a higher intensity of training to work on key skills and I'm very proud of the girls for their commitment to training. We have a couple of weeks to prepare for the next game away at Darlington on the 6th November and hope to continue our success. ”
