This weekend sees the action get back underway at Melbourne Avenue as Fleet host Moortown from Yorkshire in their first Pre-Season game. The Off Season has undoubtedly felt long but after a successful pre season the lads are ready and raring to go this weekend.
Numbers at training since the first week of July has been nothing short of fantastic with numbers regularly hitting in excess of 30+. The coaching team could not have asked for better in terms of determination and attitude from the lads. We have also been able to welcome some new faces to the club and each and every one has slotted in perfectly and bought into the Fleetwood Ethos, and for sure has given the coaching team some selection headaches moving forward.
Furthermore, we have also welcomed back some old faces back to the club, The return of former club captain ‘Tom Evans’ obviously speaks for itself with his experience and knowledge of the club, we are excited to see Tom slot back into the team alongside new partnerships which will undoubtedly put fear into the opposition. We also welcome back workhorse ‘Jordan Brocklehurst’ after his missing last season with Fleet, We all know what Jordan brings to the team and alongside his two brothers (Jack and Luke), its great to see the deadly trio back together on the pitch. We also welcomed back Kyle Bedford and Josh Strickland who again we haven’t seen for some time but are both looking sharp and ready to push for their shirts.
The Coaching team are also delighted to announce this year's ‘Leadership team’, -
Club Captain – Jack Brocklehurst continues in his role as per last season, Jack stepped into this role last season which we all know was a tough season for Fleet but Jack really stepped up in terms of his attitude to lead by example.
Co-Vice Captains – Supporting Jack this season will once again be Chris Jones and Joe Kirton, both players regularly display the ethos of what ‘Fleetwood Rugby Club’ is all about in terms of their performance but more importantly their attitudes.
Wyresider’s Co-Captains – This year we see a new partnership in captaincy for the Wyresiders, Josh Pearce and Sam Pook will now be supporting Buzza in leading the team. Both players have been at the club for many years coming through our junior section, I’m delighted for both the players in rewarding them with these roles.
Wyresider’s Co-Vice Captains – Ant Clarke and Mick Mortimer will support both Josh and Sam this season. Ant again is a player who came through our junior section and since his return to the club a few seasons back, his attitude and commitment is unquestionably the reason why he has this new role. Mick is relatively new to Fleetwood but his commitment in particular last season was fantastic and with his vast experience of Rugby, we now have the perfect set-up within the Wyresiders to push on this season.
Off the pitch there has been a lot of work going on, we welcomed back Jamie Moran towards the end of last season and his work so far has simply been outstanding. Jamie has been successful in securing several sponsorship opportunities for the club alongside Pete Benny-Moseley, but more importantly, Jamie has been able to add his experience of rugby into training sessions, supporting lads in their developments. I would like to thank Jamie for all his efforts so far and look forward to working with him throughout the season.
Without a doubt, this has been one of the best pre-seasons I have personally seen in my time at Fleetwood with so many good things happening both on and off the pitch, the club with its new committee set up are really pulling together to get this club back to where it belongs. I look forward to seeing what all teams can and will achieve this year from the 1st team all the way down to our mini juniors.
