County president praises club during Melbourne Avenue trip

Fleetwood welcomed Lancashire RFC President Tim Stirk and his wife Alison to Melbourne Avenue last weekend for the league fixture against Oldham.
Mr Stirk was greeted by club chairman Colin Goodwin and members of the committee before watching the game. The county president commented the Green & Gold had so far enjoyed a good start to the season and said the defeat against Oldham went against their strong home form.

“Fleetwood have had a pretty good start to the season and they will be disappointed with their performance against Oldham. Despite the poor weather there was a good turnout including a good number of youngsters.”

Mr Stirk was involved with Rugby World Cup planning and said an increase in youth involvement in the sport was something the RFU anticipated.

“One of the more encouraging things about Fleetwood is the number of juniors coming here to watch and play. I know there has been a marked increase in new players since the World Cup and that is something we had hoped for. I’m quite proud of what we managed to do. It was a fantastic competition altogether and portrayed rugby very well.”

Fleetwood have rugby sessions, practice and games from the age of 6 upwards. Please contact Caroline on 07415 272340 for further details.
