The joint Fleetwood rugby and cricket club mini bus appeal is going from strength to strength but remain some distance from their target of £25,000.

Both clubs are raising funds to jointly purchase a mini-bus for use by their respective junior sections.

Rugby club junior chair Caroline Torkington said the fund has lately received two welcome boosts.

“I must express a big thank you to the people who supported us on Tram Sunday. Our bottle tombola stand was a huge success. We don’t have the final figure but I know it will be a very welcome contribution. A great big thank you must also go to the volunteers on the day and those who donated to our tombola.”

The second windfall was completely unexpected when Caroline attended the under 15 boys presentation evening and received a cheque for £1000 towards the appeal.

The team had spent 12 months raising funds for an end of season tournament in Amsterdam. They then found a surplus from money raised through team social events and activies such as bag packing at supermarkets.

“The cheque was a huge surprise and very welcome. The boys did really well attracting sponsorship to pay for kit and equipment for the trip. In addition, they also spent time raising funds for extra costs and it was the success of these events that produce a surplus. They could have kept the money for their own use but unselfishly decided to put it back into the club as a whole.

“The fundraising is going really well but we still have some distance to go,” added Caroline.
