FLEETWOOD RUGBY CLUB ROOF APPEAL
September 1st 2018

Members, Ladies & Gentlemen,
The Clubhouse at Fleetwood Rugby Club has existed on its present site since the 1950’s in one guise or another. In 1962/3 a couple of Nissen huts were acquired from Weeton Camp and reconstructed by volunteer members. These, along with further developments over the years, constitutes our present premises. Consequently, the flat roof was extended during those additions. Periodic maintenance, both by members and roofing contractors was carried out to extend the roof life and was largely successful. Sadly, parts of it are now so degraded that a number of leaks over the last year has focussed Committee attention. Prevarications over the course of action are no longer wise.

IT IS OBVIOUS THAT A MAJOR REFURBISHMENT OF THE ROOF WILL BE NECESSARY IN THE NEAR FUTURE
to support Senior Men’s & Ladies, Colts, Mini/Juniors Rugby and other Community based activities.

NO ROOF NO CLUB

A number of alternatives have been explored, from an overall pitched metal roof to a complete resurfacing of the area.
As a consequence, it has been agreed that RE-ROOFING at a cost of approx. £50,000 with a modern epoxy-based fibre glass material is the preferred option.
(Briefly, a full pitched metal roof would cost approx. £100,000.)
To fund such a project, available club funds are out of the question. This leaves only one viable immediate alternative: -
An application has been lodged with the RFU for an interest free loan of £50,000 payable back over 15 years. (Temporary patching and waterproofing is being undertaken in the interim to hopefully see us through the winter if necessary)
Therefore, launched today
