Bob was born in Blackpool and attended Arnold School in the early 1970's and it was at this time that he played here at Melbourne Avenue.
From a sporting family, his father (also called Bob) the Huddersfield Town goalkeeper in the 1938 FA Cup Final and brothers Steve a Warrington RL favourite and Iain, goalkeeper for Blackpool, Sunderland and Hull .
Bob continued his education at Durham University and played for UAU and British Universities and Fylde. His distinguished rugby career as a powerful No.8 forward saw Bob win ten caps for England and as a member of the Bristol side won the John Player Cup in 1983. He continued to coach at Bristol until 1990.
All at Fleetwood RUFC send their sincerest sympathy to Bob’s family and friends at this sad time.
