Under 10s finish the season on a high.

Fleetwood under 10s had a busy weekend of rugby to finish off the 2015-16 season. On Saturday they hosted a strong Manchester side who were touring the Fylde Coast as part of their warmup for the Preston Grasshoppers Festival of Rugby taking place on the next day. Fleetwood had limited numbers due to regular Saturday commitments but still were able to field a side of committed players.
Fleetwood took the game to Manchester in the early stages but it soon came clear that the travelling side were a very capable team. There were strong individual performances from the Green and Gold but the lack of numbers and experience soon showed against a much larger squad as the Fleetwood players tired in the sun.
Had the scores been important (which they weren’t) Manchester would have won but brave performances from a much depleted Fleetwood side were just as impressive as the ability of Manchester to play score and credit should be taken by the Fleetwood players who stuck it out to the end.
On Sunday Fleetwood Under 10s welcomed Clitheroe for the final match of the weekend and the season. In a stark contrast to Saturday the weather was cold and wet and the almost full strength squad played some blistering rugby. The squad were able to play with the same determination as on Saturday but on Sunday rather than play as a bunch of individuals they played together as a fantastic cohesive team. Support work was superb and communication across the park was outstanding. The team was able to out manoeuvre the opposition by maintaining possession in the ruck and by fighting for every ball they were able to limit the possession and therefore point scoring opportunities that Clitheroe had. Both sides played with flair and great ability with Fleetwood finishing the stronger. Both teams left the field beaming and proud of their exhibition of Rugby.
“Performances like todays performance make it all worthwhile” Coach Holden said “The kids really put in an outstanding performance and played some very attractive rugby - and they knew it“
Our attention now moves to the Mini’s Presentation day at the club on 22nd May where we will celebrate the successes that we have had during the season and then begin to work on the new skills that we need as we move on up to Under 11s.
Whilst this is the last match for the season training will continue throughout the summer, holidays permitting. Details of any changes will be communicated through the normal channels.
