For the second successive week Fleetwood failed to score a point

The game itself was hard to watch with both teams making lots of errors and apart from a good try by Wigan early in the game, gave the quite sizeable crowd little to cheer. After last weeks defeat to a very good Widnes side Fleetwood could have hoped for better things, but injuries, unavailability and late cry offs meant that we had a couple of changes in the forwards and apart from Luke Wilson at scrum half, a completely new back division. It is difficult for any team to get any fluency with that number of changes.

Our coach Dan Orwin is very good at his job but is not a miracle worker. In order to get back to winning ways we need everyone at training and a commitment from all players to make themselves available with some regularity and consistency. Your club needs YOU. We welcome the influx of players from the Nautical college, they have proved to be useful additions to our playing strength.

Last week our 2s had a morale boosting win over local rivals Blackpool but were given a walkover in the cup this week. However, we were all devastated by the sad news of the untimely death of Clare Buzza after a brave fight with cancer. The wife of veteran forward Steve, Clare was an extremely popular member of the Fleetwood RUFC family and will be greatly missed by everyone at the club. We send our condolences to Steve, and also to Clare’s mum and dad, Hillary and Barry.

Head coach Dan Orwin said “We were devastated to hear of the passing of Clare Buzza. She and her husband Stephen have been a part of the fabric of this club for many years. Our deepest condolences go to Stephen, and Clare’s family. It feels irrelevant speaking about the game at Wigan, after such awful news. All I can say is that the players and I were very frustrated. We are a much better team than we showed on Saturday. There were some things to be positive about though, including our scrum and our defence. Also, we had a number of ex-colts making their 1st team debuts. We need consistency in availability to train and play though if we are to turn these tight games into wins.”
